Access the Blue Ridge Parkway from Highway 70
(I-40 exit 55) and follow it north to Highway 221. Enjoy the scenery for 2 hours, stop for
a bite at Mount Mitchell, then catch US-221 back down to Marion and I-40. Return to
Asheville on I-40. Counting the time out for lunch and a few stops on the way, that loop
takes about 5 hours and is a great day trip.
