Greenville area FacilitiesNote: telephone area code is 864Bob Jones University - GreenvilleFounded as Bob Jones College in College Point, Florida in 1927 by well-known evangelist Dr. Bob Jones, Sr., the school moved to Cleveland, Tennessee in 1933. In 1947 it moved again, this time to its current 200 plus acre campus in Greenville, South Carolina and reopened as Bob Jones University. Today the university offers over 150 undergraduate and graduate majors to more than 5000 students each year. Bob Jones University is determined that, "No school shall excel it in the thoroughness of its scholastic work; and God helping it, in the thoroughness of its Christian training." A student who comes to BJU can be certain that, "...every aspect of University life has Jesus Christ at its center, and the Bible as its foundation." Furman University - GreenvilleFounded in 1826, Furman University is a private, coeducational liberal arts college five miles north of Greenville, South Carolina. The 750-acre campus includes 28 major buildings, a 30-acre lake, formal rose garden, Japanese garden, golf course and football stadium. Founded at Edgefield, South Carolina, in 1826, the school was chartered as a full-fledged university in 1850 when it was moved to Greenville. Furman offers 36 majors and awards the following baccalaureate degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of General Studies. It also confers Master of Arts in education and Master of Science in chemistry. Students optionally pursue dual-degree programs in engineering, forestry, and environmental studies. Furman is one of the select group of colleges that qualify for a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's top academic honorary society. Furman is one of four universities to receive annual support from The Duke Endowment, the largest philanthropic foundation in the Southeast. Furman University is one of the oldest colleges in South Carolina and the 64th oldest in the nation. It is named for Richard Furman of Charleston, South Carolina, president of the first Baptist Convention in America, who laid the groundwork for the establishment of the college.
