North Carolina, University of, at Pembroke NC

Established in 1887 as a school for Native Americans it was the only state supported four-year college for Native Americans in the U.S. until 1953. It gained university status in 1969 and is a co-educational institution. With a 125 acre campus(near Lumberton) including 22 academic buildings and five residence halls, the school currently has a total enrollment of some 3000 students.
