From its intersection with US-64 and NC-280 just
east of Brevard, US-276 climbs past three major waterfalls to Wagon Wheel Gap and the Blue
Ridge Parkway. This is the Pisgah Game Preserve (part of the Pisgah National Forest): well
maintained - despite deep budget cuts - and outfitted with an unusual abundance of
off-road parking area and picnic tables. 5.5 miles along the drive, on your left, is Looking
Glass Falls. Just a push further, on the right,
is Moore Cove Falls (the famous 'twin'
falls) and, finally, on your left, is the entrance to the large, paved parking lot (great
for recreation vehicles) of Sliding
Rock Falls. If you have had enough falls for
awhile, 14 miles up the mountain from NC-280, to your right, is the Cradle
of Forestry in America.
