Airlie Gardens - Wilmington
Designed in the early 1900's, 67 acres of post-Victorian European style gardens with 12 acres of freshwater lakes. Walking tour. Features include azaleas, camellias, statuary and the historic Airlie Oak.

Greenfield Park and Gardens - Wilmington
Wilmington is noted for its Spring Azalea Festival but you can enjoy the azaleas, camellia and other spring blooms in a leisurely drive around the 5 mile loop in the Park. Of course, you can enjoy the roses all summer and those beautiful cypress trees are not to be ignored. If your car happens to have a passenger or two in a playful mood, they also have canoes and paddleboats. Also available are bicycle paths, nature trails and, ah, picnic tables. Everything is FREE except the canoes and paddleboats. Open from dawn to dusk. 910-341-7855

Orton Plantation Gardens - Wilmington
Between Wilmington and Southport on NC-133 (about 18 miles south of Wilmington) the Orton Plantation Garden is another good example of preservation of the fine art of 19th Century English gardening. March through November hours are 9a-5:30 daily except Sunday. Closed in the winter months. 910-371-6851
