Camden Revolutionary War Site - Camden SC

Camden, the first (ca 1730) inland city in South Carolina, was the trading post for almost fifty years. Fourteen different battles were fought in this area during the Revolutionary War, A 92-acre site has been preserved and can be viewed either by foot or auto. Here is where Lord Cornwallis set up his supply headquarters after his successes in Charleston. You can view the 18th Century townsite, museum complex and several nicely reconstructed buildings and military fortifications.

The park also includes a short nature trail, a wooded picnic area and craft shop.

From I-20 take exit 98 to Camden on US-521 (1.4 miles on right).

Cheraw area Facilities

Cheraw - SC

During the Southern Campaign of Lord Cornwallis, Cheraw was part of the British strategic line of defense. General Nathanael Greene set up his Camp Cheraw to wait out the winter of 1780. Nearly a century later, General Sherman's troops passed through this area during the Civil War, briefly occupying the towns of Cheraw and Chesterfield. Information about access to the many historic sites (as well as ample literature) is available from the Cheraw Chamber of Commerce. From Camden go north on US-1 to Cheraw. From Florence, go north on US-52 to Cheraw. From Rockingham NC go south on US-1 to Cheraw.
