Relocated to within the city limits of Kingstree (affording fire and police protection). Meyric Rogers, nationally know museum curator, said: "...built on the English style ... with a great hall ... cornices and mantels ... it is amazing that the majority of the pine interior has even escaped paint ... for probably there is not another house of its type, unless it is along the James River in Virginia." Mullins area FacilitiesNote: telephone area code is 843Mullins Market & Tobacco Museum - Mullins Mullins has been a farming community sinnce the late 17th Century. Mullins' first boost came about with the completion of the railroad in 1853 (the depot survives and is a landmark in the city, today). The introduction of tobacco as a crop spurred Mullins to fame as the Tobacco Capital of South Carolina. By the turn of the century, over 200 tobacco barns dotted the area. Today, Mullins is a well-rounded, wholesome community. Yes, tobacco is still an important part of Mullins' economy. Mullins is host to a combined museum-market which includes some displays illustrating tobacco production, some tobacco-growing artifacts, a reconstructed tobacco pole barn. Our most recent information states that this facility is only open all day Saturdays and afternoons of Sundays and Mondays. Return to Mullins - Return to Pee Dee MAP - Return to area Community LIST
