This battlefield site commemorates a pivotal and significant victory by the American Patriots over the American Loyalists (loyal to King George) during the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution. Fought on October 7, 1780, this battle crushed the Loyalist army of Major Ferguson (which destroyed the left wing of Lord Cornwallis' army and halted the British advance into North Carolina).

On this field January 17, 1781, Daniel Morgan led his army of tough Continentals, militia and cavalry to a brilliant victory over a superior force of British regulars commanded by Banastre Tarleton. On SC-11 (Cherokee Hills Scenic Highway) just southeast of the intersection of SC-110. From I-85 northbound: exit 78 toward Chesnee; southbound: exit 92. From I-26: exit 5, then east on SC-11.
