Rose Hill Plantation State Park - Union SC

The antebellum home of Governor William Gist, this nicely restored plantation hose on the bank of the Tyger River is set off by a 44 acre, well manicured lawn and the famous Rose Garden. Tours of the mansion are scheduled between 11a and 4p Saturdays and between noon and 4p Sundays (other times by appointment only). The Rose Garden and grounds are open to visitors during daylight hours Thursdays through Mondays. Admission $2.

From I-26: Take exit #44 (SC 49) to Union. Pass through Cross Anchor to Cross Keys (approximately 5 miles). Bear right onto County road 18 (Old Buncombe Road) and continue about 5 more miles to Sardis Road. Turn left, pass the cemetery (on the left), and continue on Sardis Road to the park. Winnsboro area Facilities

 About Historic Winnsboro - SC

Winter headquarters of Lord Cornwallis and his army. Self-guided walking tour includes the house occupied by Lord Cornwallis. (Guide brochures are available at Town Hall - or from downtown merchants on weekends.) Attractions include the Fairfield County Museum, numerous historic homes and buildings, and the oldest continuously running clock in the nation. Phone 803-635-4242 (Sorry, we have been unable to find any web sites featuring information about Winnsboro's history.)

Five miles east of Winnsboro off US 21 is Lake Wateree State Park.

Winnsboro is about 30 minutes northwest of Columbia just off US-321 (on SC-34). If coming from Columbia, take I-77 to exit #34; follow signs to Winnsboro. If coming from Charlotte, take I-77 south to exit #41; follow signs to Winnsboro.

South Carolina Railroad Museum - Winnsboro SC

The South Carolina Railroad Museum is located just outside of Winnsboro. If you are a railroad buff, the SCRM is a very complete historical portrait of railroads in South Carolina. (The SCRM is an all-volunteer organization; no phone number is available. However their mailing address is The South Carolina Railroad Museum, Inc., PO Box 7246, Columbia SC 29202.
