Cradle of Forestry in America (near Brevard) NCThis is the official, and probably the best revelation, of the birth and development of forestry in the United States. You are treated to a multi-media presentation in the Visitors' Center, then to a guided tour on one of two interpretive trails winding through the campus. There is a series of buildings, each restored to 'what used to be' and, each, presenting a specific subject area. The whole thing is well planned and well presented. They even have one of the old logging locomotives on one of the two trails. There are special activities from time to time during the summer months but you need to phone to find out what, when, etc. Located on US-276 between Brevard and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hours are 9a to 5p 7 days a week from the middle of April to the end of October. Phone 828-877-3130.
