The High Falls Park in Oconee County, on the
east shore of Lake Keowee, has all the amenities one would expect of a South
Carolina State Park - but it is owned and maintained by Oconee County. This, very popular
park is located on SC-183 just east of the Keowee Dam, and provides easy public access to
Lake Keowee. This location just north of Seneca also provides our visitors an excellent
base from which to explore the many other scenic and recreation sites in the area. A less
well-known attraction for history buffs is the historic Alexander Cannon-Hill House here.
Oconee County maintains 100 campsites with full hookups (plus hot showers).
(see
special note about maintenance schedule, below)
There is also
a dump station just outside the park near the gatehouse. Camping fees are
currently $16 for non-residents (Oconee County) and $14 for county residents.
A $3 senior and disabled persons discount can be applied to daily camping
fees.
The park has a nice picnic area with 2 shelters
plus a community building (phone for
reservations and required fees). The park also features a
playground, horseshoes, tennis and volleyball courts, carpet golf and a nice beach on the
lake for swimmers (must stay inside the marked area).
Fishing is allowed (SC state laws apply). A nice fishing pier is easily accessed by our
visitors with mobility restrictions. Good access to the lake for boaters is via on-site
boat ramp. There is a concession stand; alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited.
The park is
normally open year-round for camping.
Only the day use areas (which excludes camping) will be
open from November 2003 through February 2004 due to maintenance. The public
restrooms will also be closed. There is a vehicle parking fee from Memorial Day through Labor Day on Fri, Sat, Sun and holidays: cost $2.00 for car or truck or $3.00 if they have a boat trailer.
Park gates are open from 7a-10p.
Physical location of the park is 671 High Falls Rd, Seneca. Postal address
is now the same. Phone: 864-882-8234 or 864-638-4212.
Directions:
On SC-11 go through West Union (do not turn on SC-28) to SC 183. Turn left on SC 183 and go about 5 miles to High Falls (road will be on your right).
