Jordan Lake State Recreation Area - (near) Apex

There are 9 recreation sites in the Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. From I-40 in Raleigh take the US-1 freeway south, through Cary to US-64 (just before Apex). Then follow US-64 west to the Jordan Lake Rec Area. For descriptions and information about available facilities, select the individual site from the following menu:

Jordan Lake SRA - Campgrounds

There are 5 recreation sites in the Jordan Lake State Recreation Area having campgrounds. These are all large, well developed, waterfront sites with facilities for RVs (no primative camp areas here). From I-40 in Raleigh take the US-1 freeway south, through Cary to US-64 (just before Apex). Then follow US-64 west to the Jordan Lake Rec Area. All campgrounds are accessed from US-64. Jordan Lake SRA - Trails

Seaforth and Vista Point have easy-to-negotiate foot paths. There are no 'hiking' trails in the Jordan Lake SRA. Biking is prohibited on the paths.

  • Seaforth (1.4 mile foot path offering an upfront view of the lake environment)
  • Vista Point (3 mile foot path allowing an easy stroll along the lake)

Crosswinds Boat Ramp - Jordan Lake State Recreation Area - Apex

Accessed from US-64 just west of Wilsonville (midway between Apex and Pittsboro), this boat ramp is probably the easiest access to the lake. There is the parking lot, a restoom and public phone but no other facilities. The Crosswinds Campground is down the highway (just on the other side of Wilsonville). One of nine sites in the Jordan Lake State Recreation Area.

Crosswinds Campground - Jordan Lake State Rec. Area - Apex

While there are no hiking trails, there is a one-mile easy foot path allowing an easy stroll along the lake. Biking is prohibited on the path.

Special note: The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission maintains a Bald Eagle observation platform located at the north end of this 13,900 acre lake -  just off Hwy 751. It has been estimated that Jordan Lake is the largest summer home to the Bald Eagle. Budget some of your time to observe these magnificent birds (you'll be glad you did!).

There are parking spaces designated for persons with disabilities. The bathhouse and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.  Some of the campsites are designed for wheelchairs.

177 tent/trailer campsites, each contains a picnic table, outdoor grill and a tent pad. 129 sites have water and electric hookups for RVs. Dump station on site. Showers and restrooms are centrally located. Campsite reservations may be made for a minimum stay of 7 days. Unoccupied/unreserved campsites are available on a first-come basis. Campground open from March 21st through November 15th. Park Hours: Nov thru Feb 8a-6p; Mar and Oct 8a-7p; Apr and Sep 8a-8p; May thru Aug 8a-9p. Call the park office (919-362-0586) prior to your departure to confirm camping dates.

There is also a privately owned/operated full-service marina on the lake .

Ebenezer Church - Jordan Lake State Recreation Area - Apex

While there are no hiking trails, there are a couple of foot paths, each .9 mile loops, offering an upfront view of the lake environment. Biking is prohibited on the paths.

Six boat ramps enable easy access to the lake. The ramps are open 24 hours a day. Boaters should look out for underwater hazards and be sure to obey all buoys and markers. This area of the lake is very popular with wind surfers. (For current wind speed information phone 919-387-5969.)

There are no campgrounds at Ebenezer Church. There are 72 picnic tables, each with a grill and nearby water. There are also 3 shelters (one even has a fireplace) but as they are very popular it is recommended you make reservations about a month in advance.

New Hope Overlook - Jordan Lake State Recreation Area - Apex

While there are no hiking trails, you can get your exercise carrying stuff to and from your car in the parking lot to your camp site. New Hope Overlook is intended for beginning backpacking campers. Two dozen campsites, thoughtfully sited here and there in the woods well away from the parking lot (typically a quarter-mile), are each equipped with a picnic table, grill, and a lantern post. Mulch toilets and drinking water are located within easy reach.

Six boat ramps and four docks enable easy access to the lake for boaters. The ramps are open 24 hours a day. Boaters should look out for underwater hazards and be sure to obey all buoys and markers. There are also seven canoe campsites each equipped with a picnic table, grill, and a lantern post. Mulch toilets and drinking water are located within easy reach.

Parkers Creek - Jordan Lake State Recreation Area - Apex

While there are no hiking trails, there is a short foot path allowing an easy stroll along the lake. Biking is prohibited on the path.

Special note: The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission maintains a Bald Eagle observation platform located at the north end of this 13,900 acre lake -  just off Hwy 751. It has been estimated that Jordan Lake is the largest summer home to the Bald Eagle. Budget some of your time to observe these magnificent birds (you'll be glad you did!).

There are parking spaces designated for persons with disabilities. The bathhouse and restrooms are also wheelchair accessible.  Four of the campsites are designed for wheelchairs.

There are about 40 picnic tables scattered around under the trees. About half of them have grills. Water is convenient to all and restrooms are also centrally located. There are two 8-table shelters and one 4-table shelter. They are very popular so you are advised to make reservations about a month in advance.

Campers have available 250 tent/trailer campsites. Each contains a picnic table, outdoor grill and a tent pad. 150 sites have water and electric hookups for RVs. There is also a centrally located dump station. Showers and restrooms are also centrally located. Campsite reservations may be made for a minimum stay of 7 days. Unoccupied/unreserved campsites are available on a first-come basis. A few of the campgrounds are open all year. The others are available from the week before Easter to November 15th. Park Hours: Nov thru Feb 8a-6p; Mar and Oct 8a-7p; Apr and Sep 8a-8p; May thru Aug 8a-9p. Call the park office (919-362-0586) prior to your departure to confirm camping dates.

Robeson Creek - Jordan Lake State Recreation Area - Apex

This is one of nine sites in the Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. It has 2 boat ramps, a nice, sandy beach and that's about it. No campgrounds, picnic tables or public telephone. There is, however, a privately owned/operated full-service marina on the lake.

Park Hours: Nov thru Feb 8a-6p; Mar and Oct 8a-7p; Apr and Sep 8a-8p; May thru Aug 8a-9p.

There are no campgrounds at Seaforth. There are 47 picnic tables, about half of them with grills.  Water and restrooms are centrally located. There is also 1 shelter with 12 tables (and grills).
