Though there are no park-at-your-tent campsites, there are some very nice primative camping sites only a mile from the parking lot. There are also six group sites (groups of about a dozen members). While there are pit toilets in the camping area, there are also restrooms back at the parking lot in the picnic area. Six hiking trails and two very easy walks take you to the various points of interest in the 2500+ acre park.
This is the Carolina Foothills - not the place where one would expect to find a pair of 850 foot tall quartzite monoliths (one of which presenting a 150 foot sheer cliff to the otherwise rolling countryside). But here it is, standing like a monument to some long-forgotten event. Several hiking trails take you to the cliff-top where you can see fifteen to twenty miles across the green Carolina foothills. Several species of raptors, a fascinating bird of prey, can be observed soaring in the upstream flowing upwards against the cliffs. (Raptors may also be observed at the Carolina Raptor Center in the Latta Plantation Park near Charlotte.)
From Charlotte on I-85 take exit 13 (Edgewood Rd) south (left) ½ mile to Franklin Blvd (US-29/74). Turn right and follow US-29/74 about 2 miles to SR-1125 (Sparrow Spgs Rd) in the Mtn View community. Turn left onto SR-1125 and follow the signs to the park.
From South Carolina on I-85 take exit 10 and follow US-29/74 about ½ mile toward Gastonia. Turn right at Mtn View onto SR-1125 and follow the signs to the park.
If coming from Kings Mountain or Shelby on US-74, just stay in the left lane, cross over I-85, continue another ½ mile and turn right at Mtn View onto SR-1125 (Sparrow Spgs Rd). Follow the signs to the park.
