Inlet
The Atlantic Ocean beaches in the Murrells Inlet area are
on the penensula extending south from Garden City Beach (Take Atlantic Avenue from US-17
Business to Waccamaw Drive. Turn right and you can follow it to the end which is Murrells
Inlet (the boat navigation passage, not the town). There are no official public access
points along Waccamaw Drive. There is, however, Huntington Beach State Park just south of Murrells Inlet.

From US-17 take Shell Road toward the ocean to
Pawleys Drive which follows the beach. (Shell Road is just north of Pawleys Island
Plaza.). There are no official public access points but there are several 'can-do'
spots. Watch where you park the car, though. We recommend you use the Huntington Beach State
Park just north of here.

Huntington Beach is especially noted for five major
features:
- the best preserved beach on the Grand Strand
- one of the finest birdwatching sites on the east coast
- site of the historic castle Atalaya
- Brookgreen Garden - the garden of sculptures.
- annual (in September) arts and crafts festival
In addition to its beautiful beach, there is a saltwater
marsh teeming with wildlife, a freshwater lagoon and nature trails and a boardwalk to help
you enjoy it with very little effort. And you don't have to be a 'bird watcher' to
appreciate the beauty of all the feathered creatures, large and small, that seem to like
it here better than anywhere else.
Atalaya is the former winter home of the
internationally famous American sculptress Anna Hyatt Huntington. Brookgreen Garden, a
formal garden reminiscent of the old English gardens but generously endowed with
sculptures from many American artists (as well, of course, as Anna Hyatt Huntington) is
just across the street.
Every September, a large portion of the art world
(including many of the who's who) gather here for an arts and crafts festival. If you are
an art lover you certainly do not want to miss this festival.
The Park is midway between Myrtle Beach and Georgetown
(on US-17).
Park Hours in April through October are 6a - 10p (daily);

In Surfside Beach, the ocean front drive is Ocean
Boulevard. In Garden City Beach the same road is named Waccamaw Drive. In Surfside Beach,
at the foot of Surfside Drive, is a nice fishing pier from which you also have access to
the beach. There are other access points along Ocean Blvd where you can slip onto the
beach but be careful where you park your car.
Garden City Beach also has a fishing pier at the foot of
Atlantic Avenue. There are other access points along Waccamaw Drive where you can slip
onto the beach but be careful where you park your car.
