Edisto Beach State Park (50 mi SE of) WalterboroThe unspoiled salt-water marsh on one side, the Atlantic Ocean on the other and about 3 miles of beach in between; yours to enjoy. Cabins, campsites and picnic facilities. Take exit 57 of I-95 and follow SC-64 east to Jacksonboro. Turn left on US-17 and proceed 7 miles to SC-174. Turn right and follow SC-174 to Edisto Beach. Edisto River Canoe/Kayak Trail - WalterboroThis is a 56-mile course along the black-water Edisto River paradise featuring wildlife and flora unique to the black-water rivers of South Carolina. The Edisto, and other black water rivers, flow so slowly that paddling is as though you are in a pond. But the waters and folliage along the riverbanks is teaming with wildlife. There are also many smaller rivers and streams that make pleasant detours - especially because they are too shallow for powerboats. Headquarters and departure point is at Colleton State Park located on the Edisto River midway between St. George and Walterboro SC. Take exit 68 of I-95 (SC-61) east to US-15 (about 3 miles), turn left; entrance on right. Phone 538-8206 between 11a and 12 noon or between 4p and 5p.
