It's a long drive to Florida. But you can shorten it by spending an hour or two in Walterboro. Perhaps, if not by the hands on your watch, you will sure feel the effect of this bit of relaxation in this unique lowcountry town. If you're southbound on I-95, take exit 57 and follow the signs to downtown Walterboro. When you spot the big, white courthouse grab a parking spot and stroll up East Washington Street (to your left).One and a half blocks from Jefferies Blvd, on the left side of Washington, is the City Plaza. You will know it because its center of attraction is a man-made mini-Niagra Falls. Across the street from the Plaza is the Washington Street Cafe. We always stop there - wouldn't miss it (noon 'till 9 except closed Sundays and Mondays). The Chamber of Commerce is on Jefferies Blvd (probably very near to where you parked) and has a little booklet entitled A Guided Tour of Walterboro South Carolina. Even if you don't have time to take the tour, the booklet is very interesting - and just might be enough to bring you back to take the tour another day. RWM
